Alaska International Adoption Agency, Ltd. is a non-profit child-placing agency licensed by the Alaska Department of Health, Office of Children's Service. The original license was issued in 1993 and the permanent license # 360675 followed in 1994. The AIA Board of Directors consists of three persons, in accordance with A laska corporate law. Olga Byrnes, a Russian attorney experienced in Russian Family law since 1981 and a former public defender in the Khabarovsk region , now resides in Anchorage, Alaska . She is operational Director of the agency. Alex Bortnick is an Alaskan attorney who has worked with adoptions since 1986 and previously worked as a social worker abroad. Kevin Brownsberger is coming on board as a new Director. Kevin teaches in a local high school and is himself an adoptive parent. The agency has social work staff available, all of whom are approved by the USCIS and state of Alaska to complete international home study reports and post-placement counseling and reports. The agency can arrange home studies for Alaskan residents with social work staff, and coordinates with other agencies licensed in other states to ensure that home studies for our non-Alaska clients strictly comply with federal, Russian, state of residence and Alaskan requirements. The agency may also contract, as needed, with other local professionals (medical, developmental, and educational specialists). AIA agency offers a wide range of adoption related services. The agency also is involved with humanitarian projects in Russia, and supports projects designed to improve the quality of life for institutionalized children. |
